Barriera A22

Two members of the industrial group ‘Gruppo Industriale Tosoni’, Far Systems and Cordioli, were responsible for building the first high-efficiency photovoltaic noise barrier in Italy. 1069 metres in length and 5.6 metres in height, the barrier runs along the edge of the hard shoulder on the southbound carriageway of the A22 at Marano, Trento. It was designed and installed to protect the municipality of Isera and bring noise levels within the limits required by Presidential Decree n. 142, dated 30/03/2004. Electrical energy is generated by 3,944 monocrystaline silicon photovoltaic panels covering a surface area of 5,035 square metres. The photovoltaic generator peak power reaches approximately 730 kWp with an average annual production of approximately 690,000 kilowatt-hours. Thanks to feed-in tariff incentives, the photovoltaic noise barrier transforms what would otherwise be a certain cost for licensees into an environmentally-friendly business opportunity
